Steve Karabatos
Youth Pastor
Steve Karabatos, aka Mr. K, has been the Youth Pastor at Mountain View Chapel since he was hired straight out of the congregation in 1999. Immigrating from Greece when he was 27 months old, Mr. K taught himself to speak, read, and write English by watching Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, and The Electric Company. As a result, Mr. K’s first language is Greek, and he uses that to his benefit as he prepares his Bible messages and often refers to the Greek Scriptures in his sermon preparation. It’s all Greek to him…
Mr. K grew up in the Greek Orthodox Church before leaving that church to start attending Mountain View at the end of 1993. Sometime in early to mid-1995, Mr. K turned his life over to Jesus Christ. He was baptized in 1997 and was selected as a deacon in 1998 before giving up that position to take over as Youth Pastor on August 29, 1999. That seems like a century ago…
Mr. K is a 1988 graduate of Boyertown Area Senior High School and a 1993 graduate of Kutztown University with a degree in Secondary English Education. Mr. K met his wife Becky, aka Mrs. K, on December 17, 1988 and they were married on August 22, 1993 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. His life is chronicled in a documentary called My Big Fat Greek Wedding…
Prior to becoming a Youth Pastor, Mr. K owned and operated a limousine company for seven years and during that time he also co-hosted a weekly NASCAR television program on PCTV for three years. For the record, he never raced any of his limousines on the NASCAR circuit, though he did work on a pit crew once…
Mr. and Mrs. K have three children and twelve grandchildren, plus another unofficially adopted child and an additional two grandkids, and roughly 1500 unofficially adopted teenagers who have come through their ministry over the last 23 years or so. Mr. K thinks the biggest change he has seen over the course of his youth ministry is that they build kids a lot faster than they used to…
Mr. K enjoys road cycling, collecting vintage sports cards, wearing witty t-shirts, quoting The Simpsons, spending time in his mid-century decorated office or living room, and attending events involving his grandkids and teens in his ministry. He especially enjoys talking about Jesus and of all the topics he covers, he loves teaching evidential apologetics the best. He feels blessed to earn a living doing something he loves to do and plans to keep at it until God makes it clear to him it is time to move on.
