Mid-Year Musings

They say history is written by the victors.  But the Bible was written by prophets and apostles who, in their day at least, were on the losing side.

Every visit to the King of Prussia Mall reminds me that all the Christian principles I try to live by mean nothing to most people.


One soldier being pinned down by machine gun fire doesn’t mean his side is losing.  Things may look completely different to the general overseeing the entire battle.


I have no interest in church growth for its own sake.  Weeds grow.  So does cancer.


A fly rubbing its ‘hands’ together makes me uncomfortable.


The conservative Jewish commentator, Dennis Prager, has a good question that he always asks atheists: “Do you hope you are right?”


I saw a meme showing a row of human skulls, each with a different label (e.g. Atheist, Christian, Gay, Straight, Black, White) to show that no matter what the label, we are all the human.  But suppose we could post a picture of six sets of IDENTICAL human genitalia, three labeled as ‘Male’ and three as ‘Female’, what would the lesson be?  Nowadays it depends upon whom you ask.


The longer I live, the more I find myself using the word ‘unfortunate’.


When something goes wrong, I find it far more profitable to ask “What is the next step in solving this problem?” than “Who is to blame?”


Jeering is not refuting.

Some people believe that destroying the American republic will save democracy.


Reading newspapers from other countries teaches you how much of your life here doesn’t matter to the rest of the world.
